the beginning
design selection

A design Committee of 15 prominent artists, veterans and community leaders chose three finalists from among over 100 interested artists. Each of the three finalists submitted detailed plans for the sculpture. In January of 2000, the Committee chose Robert Eccleston of Schuyler Falls, NY.

His work is a bronze sculpture of one soldier carrying his wounded buddy out of danger.

It was dedicated on 11 November, 2002.
